This is the Place Heritage Park’s Master Woodworker Aaron Mc Donald teaches young apprentice
In the apprenticeship system boys, usually between ten and fourteen years old, were trained under the supervision of a master craftsman or merchant in a particular trade or profession for several years, most often until they were twenty-one. Many guilds required that the apprentices parents pay the master a fee for his services. Through apprenticeship the guilds regulated entry into the trades, maintained skill levels, and secured cheap labor for the masters. Under the terms of the indenture (contract), the master acted in loco parentis, and the apprentice promised to serve his master well, living in his household while learning the craft. A young man who had completed his apprenticeship successfully would be admitted by a specific guild as a journeyman and allowed to work with a master craftsman for wages. After serving a fixed tenure as a journeyman and having proven his craftsmanship, the journeyman could apply to the guild for master craftsman status, which allowed him to establish his own shop and ply his particular craft. In a century when most structures were built from wood, no tradesman was more useful than the carpenter. The main business of the pioneer carpenter was to cut and join timber and board into sturdy wooden homes and shops in the Salt Lake valley. As Salt Lake City blossomed, the demand for new homes, shops, cabinets and furniture, and their repair, grew at a rapid pace. Visit the park and see the amazing skills, and workmanship of Master Woodwork …
TOO LATE FOR MANG JUAN
pure smiles used to roam on this land when rice fields were young and healthy and the gumamela flowers fenced our wooden homes. strangers were welcome to have a drink and eat colored rice cake. vagees and fruits were often free and shared by neighbors. country folks seldom got hungry. our lives were simple and happy. as happy as our ricefields. and then our town mayor visited the farm lands… and he saw something that we never noticed. PROGRESS… that was what he called it. he bought the land with his smile and guns… cheaply. he then doubled its price and sold it to what he called PROGRESS. now most of our rice fields are concrete spaces; cradles of factories that color our air red and black; nest of modern houses and golf courses that we can’t even affored. and our mayor is smiling because he is the richest man in our province. he is not our mayor anymore but his son is. religious ministers supported our former mayor and now he is our governor. now there is aa food crisis in our country. because the story of our town’s rice field is also the story of our country. rice fields, just like reason, and justice, and love are gone… and i can say now that there is no more poor in my country because the poor people here are invisible they are not heard… they are not seen… they are nothing they eat rat and nobody notices. they eat spoiled leftovers and never seen they die in hunger and no one cares
Russian JetSeaplanes US Needs to Patrol FireFight dynmicpara
The “non-existant” global warming that is causing the “seasonal” wildfires all over the “phony” drought-stricken areas of America demand LARGE effective firefighting JET aircraft that can scoop up massive amounts of water from nearby lakes/reservoirs and then fly very fast 400+ mph to drop onto fires to smother them quickly and completely. American technosnobbery manifests itself when the FACTS that the Russians have better jet-powered seaplanes that can do this job and we should buy them instead of subsidizing WW2 flying clubs that drop handfuls of water at a time–when their wings are not falling off. www.combatreform.org This also applies to the Not Invented Here Syndrome (NIHS) that flares up when we need effective, long-range military ASW, ASuW and maritime patrol planes; racketeers want to convert flimsy Boeing AIRLINERS to make them into quasi-military aircraft to feed corporate greed $$$ instead of buying superior Russian seaplane jets that can not only do the job better, can actually LAND ON THE WATER to rescue our men in peril, use dipping sonar as well as insert/extract Navy SEAL commandos. The Russians are our allies in the containment of Islamic extremism, yet we wonder why they are mad at us when we don’t treat them like an ally and buy their planes when they are superior by objective standards? Maybe someday, Americans will wake up and stop buying into the lies of the self-professed “experts” (aka self-serving racketeers) and demand effective homeland …
Heavy Rains Rio de Janeiro.wmv
Let the burning candle in this video be our Prayer for Rio de Janeiro…. Rains pelted Rio again on Wednesday, a day after the heaviest deluge on record sent killer mudslides cascading down hillsides and turned streets into raging torrents in Brazils second-biggest city. The death toll increased to 100 in Rio and the neighbouring city of Niteroi, while children were kept from schools for a second straight day and authorities continued to urge people to stay at home. The situation improved (Wednesday), Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes told GloboNews TV. But the less people are on the streets, the better. People should not go out if they dont have to. The city remained on alert amid fears the continuing rains could dislodge saturated ground and cause more slides, Mr. Paes said. Authorities reported 104 people injured and 65 missing. Although the sun began emerging in some areas, pockets of heavy rains continued to cause trouble. Some roads were still underwater, and a Copa Libertadores match between Flamengo and Universidad de Chile was postponed until Thursday because of flood damage at Maracana stadium. Most of the deaths were caused by landslides that slashed through slums built precariously on steep slopes, leaving red-brown trails of destruction. Concrete and wooden homes were crushed and hurtled downhill onto other structures. Officials said potential mudslides threatened at least 10000 houses in the city of 6 million people. Some 1200 people were left homeless. Rio, which will …
